Are there earlier catalogs?

Jim Lansing sold Lansing Manufacturing Company to All Technical Services in April 1941 if memory serves, forming Altec Lansing Corporation. That 1942 catalog may be the earliest Altec publication, not sure about that. The previous literature we've been able to unearth are the bulletins from Lansing Manufacturing Company, found here:

See that picture of King's Theatre in Bondi Beach, Sydney AU? I visited the location a dozen years ago but the building had been replaced. My friend had been there in the 1970s however, before he began collecting, and saw the Lansing system in place.

How about the Lansing Monitor 500A system? The actual example from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles now resides in my front bedroom... crazy world!

And what I like that the first duplex was not the 604 but the 605. Check out the depth in the '43 catalog. Also the 604 would not fit into the h-110 cabinet.

AFAIK, the first duplex was the 601 field coil.

605, with it's shorter motors came along in '62 or'63

An alnico 604 is 11-1/8 to 11-1/4 inches deep. Measure some, then you will have it factually.

Catalogs are a very poor source to quote data from, expect much of it to be incorrect.

According to the technical audio data, the 605 was a speaker cabinet produced in 1946. Then like Bowtie said, it later became the 605 Duplex

Yes, apples and oranges. The first Duplex was the field coil 15" 601 of 1943, soon followed by the permanent magnet 604 of late 1944. In the mid to late 1940s there were 605 and 605A cabinets for use with the Duplex. Later, 1960s, the downgraded 605A Duplex replaced the 604D for a time until Altec realized their horrible mistake. Then the 604E "Super Duplex" made its debut and the lower cost 605B remained in the line as a cheaper alternative.
